We Can!® Takes to the Airwaves to Mark September as National Childhood Obesity Awareness Month
To mark September as National Childhood Obesity Awareness Month, We Can!, in collaboration with the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the Ad Council, launched a multimedia public service announcement campaign focused on helping parents and caregivers help children maintain a healthy weight.
Entitled "I Can, You Can, We Can," the campaign was designed to encourage parents and caregivers to find creative ways to challenge and engage their kids to make healthy choices. For example, in the video PSA "Dunk," a mom challenges her kids to be more physically active by attempting to, and finally succeeding in, dunking a basketball. "Juice" shows a father trying multiple combinations of fresh fruits and vegetables in a juicer in an attempt to find a combination that will appeal to his daughter.
The PSAs direct audiences to "search We Can! online" to find doable tips and activities for ways parents and kids can get healthy together.
This fall, the We Can! team also helped to develop another HHS PSA campaign targeting adults ages 45-60. In collaboration with the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute's Aim for a Healthy Weight program, HHS developed the "Obesity Happens One Pound at a Time. So Does Preventing It" campaign, which include television, radio, print and out-of-home PSAs, as well as an animated infographic, all designed to help adults understand that losing even a few pounds can make a big difference in one's health and quality of life.
