Do you have a heart or blood vessel disease, such as peripheral artery disease? This study aims to collect data and samples from people who have a heart or blood vessel disease. This may include blood tests, ultrasound exams, and heart and lung tests. Family members and healthy people may also participate. The results may help researchers better understand PAD and other heart and blood vessel diseases. Participants must be at least 2 years old. Women who are pregnant may not take part in some study activities. This study is located in Bethesda, Maryland.

Human Biospecimen Procurement and Analysis to Support Translational Research to Identify Genetic Etiology and Disease Mechanism(s) in Rare Genetic Vascular/Cardiovascular Diseases

Would you like to help researchers understand how rare genetic problems may lead to cardiovascular and vascular diseases? This study will collect blood, saliva, and tissue samples to study the underlying causes of diseases. This study is located at the NIH Clinical Center in Bethesda, Maryland.

Natural History Study of CADASIL

Do you have cerebral autosomal dominant arteriopathy with subcortical infarct and leukoencephalopathy (CADASIL) or want to help someone with the condition? This study aims to learn more about a rare genetic disease called CADASIL. This condition causes small blood vessels in the body to become narrow, which can block blood flow to the brain and lead to a stroke. The study includes blood, urine, and imaging tests. This study is located at the NIH Clinical Center in Bethesda, Maryland.

Meet the Team

Manfred Boehm, M.D.

Senior Investigator

Manfred Boehm received his M.D. in 1993 from the University of Heidelberg, Germany and did his residency in internal medicine at the Franz-Volhard-Clinic, Berlin. Before arriving at the NIH and NHLBI, he was a research fellow at the Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine, Berlin from 1996 to 1997, and the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor from 1997 to 1999. He joined NHLBI as a research fellow in 1999 and has been an Investigator since 2003. Dr. Boehm received a Foundation for Advanced Education in the Sciences Award for Research Excellence from the NIH. He was also the recipient the NHLBI Science Awards in 2015 for his team’s research on rare inherited vascular diseases in children. Since 2018, Dr. Boehm has been the Branch Chief of the NHLBI Translational Vascular Medicine Branch, which focuses on studying vascular disease mechanisms to develop novel treatment strategies to better serve our patients with vascular diseases through genomic and molecular high throughput approaches to help understand diseases processes in common and rare inherited disease populations.
