The purpose of this study is to non-invasively characterize the fibrotic consequences of single ventricle physiology, its possible solution and effect on lymphatics. This project investigates the response to acute imposition of Fontan hemodynamics by examining the interrelationship between liver and cardiac fibrosis/dysfunction and lymphatic congestion along with a pilot trial of the antifibrotic agent, spironolactone, to prevent these consequences and to determine if MRI can discern these differences. The combination of serum biomarkers and MRI form a powerful non-invasive tool in putting together this complicated web of dysfunction.

The purpose of this study is to determine if acquired (partial) Cystic Fibrosis Transmembrane Conductance Regulator (CFTR) deficiency contributes substantially to the pathogenic mechanisms underlying Chronic Rhinosinusitis (CRS), creating a localized environment that impairs mucociliary clearance (MCC).

Quantitation and Spatial Registration of Airways Dysfunction With Dynamic 19F MRI in Cystic Fibrosis

Are you an adult with cystic fibrosis? If so, you may be able to join a study that looks at airflow in the lungs using MRI images and tests lung function are working. To take part, you must be able to have an MRI. Throughout one year, participants will complete 3-5 visits to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Do you have cystic fibrosis and are you a parent? This study will determine how parenthood affects the health of people with cystic fibrosis. To participate in the study, you must have a diagnosis of cystic fibrosis and you must be a first-time biological or non-biological parent to a child under 5 years old. You cannot participate in the study if you have had a lung transplant. The study is in multiple locations.

Do you or your child have a lung disease? This study will investigate the genes involved in the breathing process and in the development of lung diseases such as asthma or sarcoidosis to improve understanding of the role they play. To participate in this study, you or your child must be between 2 and 90 years old. This study is located in Bethesda, Maryland, at the NIH Clinical Center.

Do you have cystic fibrosis and are you eligible for a lung transplant?
This study is interested in learning more about the presence and location of certain bacteria in the lungs of people who have cystic fibrosis by examining lungs that have been removed from patients who have cystic fibrosis who are undergoing a lung transplant. To participate in this study, you must be at least 18 years old, have been diagnosed with cystic fibrosis, be eligible for a lung transplant, and have tried all other available treatments without success. This study is located in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
