Description
Dr. Pace, a sickle cell disease researcher, is the Interim Chief of the Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Division, Francis J. Tedesco Distinguished Chair, and Director of the Pediatric Sickle Cell Program at the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University in Augusta, Georgia. She leads an NHLBI-funded basic research laboratory focused on studies related to globin gene regulation and the design of drugs to induce fetal hemoglobin to treat sickle cell disease. For more than two decades, Dr. Pace has dedicated significant time to mentoring and promoting diversity in hematology research. She has received grant funding from NHLBI to establish Programs to Increase Diversity Among Individuals Engaged in Health-Related Research (PRIDE) to encourage underrepresented minorities and those with disabilities to pursue research careers in hematology, including sickle cell research. In 2017, the American Society of Hematology honored Dr. Pace with its inaugural Award for Leadership in Promoting Diversity.
