The 16th annual Sickle Cell in Focus (SCiF) conference will be held in-person at the NIH Bethesda, Maryland campus October 10th- October 11th, 2023. Registered participants interested in attending virtually will receive a streaming link as the conference approaches. The SCiF conference will once again be co-hosted by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) and The University of West Indies (UWI).
SCiF is a free, two-day, intensive, educational update on sickle cell disease. The conference attracts a wide audience of clinicians, academics and other healthcare professionals involved in sickle cell disease research from around the world, as well as patients and their families. Over two days, this year’s conference will address the multifactorial aspects of sickle cell disease and foster the exchange of the latest scientific and clinical information related to sickle cell disease through innovative seminars and interactive panel debates. At SCiF, you will have the opportunity to learn from renowned experts, participate in engaging discussions, and network with fellow attendees who share your passion for sickle cell research and advocacy.

Accessing NIH Campus and Parking
The NIH Bethesda campus is easily accessible by driving or via Metro (Medical Center stop on the Red Line).
All visitors must enter through the NIH Gateway Center. You will be asked to submit to a vehicle or personal inspection. Visitors over 15 years of age must provide a form of government-issued ID such as a driver's license or passport. Visitors under 16 years of age must be accompanied by an adult.
There is no parking at the Natcher Building (Bldg. 45) where the conference will be held. However, visitors can park at the Gateway Parking Garage (MLP-11) and walk about 5 minutes (0.1 miles) to Natcher. Parking at MLP-11 costs $12/day.
