The Center for Translation Research and Implementation Science (CTRIS) is seeking a scientific leader to serve as Senior Program Director in the Implementation Science Branch (ISB), and collaborate with staff across the three programmatic Divisions of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI)

The Role

The Implementation Science Senior Program Director plans and administers a broad portfolio of Institute-solicited research initiatives as well as investigator-initiated research, capacity building, and career development, with the goal of advancing the science and public health impact of dissemination and implementation research. The knowledge generated by this portfolio aims to move heart, lung, blood, and sleep discoveries into routine health impacts. The Implementation Science Senior Program Director also works closely with the CTRIS Office of the Director, the Health Inequities and Global Health Branch, and other Divisions to grow scientific advances bidirectionally (i.e., domestic-global) and in the service of advancing health equity. 

The Implementation Science Senior Program Director has a broad range of responsibilities including:

  • Planning, awarding, and administering a broad extramural portfolio of Institute-solicited and  investigator-initiated research that includes 1) dissemination and implementation research; 2) cooperative agreement phased awards, in domestic and global implementation trials; and 3) Other Transaction Authority awards in the scientific area of community engagement
  • Partnering with the ISB Chief and the other NHLBI Divisions/Branches providing scientific leadership to advance understanding of implementation theories, models, frameworks, strategies, methods, and measures
  • Exercising broad influence by developing and articulating programmatic goals and objectives to achieve the NHLBI Strategic Vision 
  • Engaging the extramural community to surface research gaps and opportunities, spur investigator-initiated research, diversify the scientific workforce, and grow capacity through workshops, webinars, technical assistance, and other strategic communications
  • Providing leadership and implementation science mentorship for staff within the ISB and across CTRIS
  • Developing and maintaining collaborations across NIH, other federal agencies, not-for-profit organizations, and industry
Requirements

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated track record of accomplishments in implementation science, and ideally evidence of strategic thinking and ability to implement their vision to advance the field
  • Ideally, includes research and programmatic experience with global health, underserved, and vulnerable populations
  • Experience leading independent NIH-funded research across a range of grant and contract mechanisms, including those that are more complex from NIH
  • Strong interest and experience in mentoring staff within CTRIS and across NHLBI in implementation science
