The Organization

The position will be located in the Division of Cardiovascular Sciences (DCVS) Clinical Applications and Prevention Branch (CAPB), which supports, conducts, and initiates population, community- and clinic-based research on the causes, prevention, and clinical care of cardiovascular diseases (CVD).

The Role

We are seeking a clinician-scientist to serve as a Program Official with expertise and strong interest in studies focused on cardiovascular disease prevention and treatment. As a clinician-scientist you will have significant involvement in several critical areas within NHLBI, including, but not limited to:

  • Primary and secondary cardiovascular disease prevention in clinical practice.
  • Social, occupational, and/or environmental influences on cardiovascular outcomes
  • Trial designs such as cluster randomized trials and adaptive designs to strengthen the ability to conduct precision prevention trials, particularly those in primary care and community settings such as schools and worksites.
  • Use of new technologies in clinical studies and applications such as wearable devices, machine learning and artificial intelligence
  • Training and career development for clinician-scientist and clinically oriented researchers, such as physician scientists, clinical trialists, and health services researchers.

Expertise in intervention studies and/or innovative use of large datasets such as health care system data to conduct pragmatic trials and answer interventions questions unlikely to be addressed adequately by trials is highly desired. Ideal candidates will have clinical training (e.g., MD/DO/MBBS, RN, PharmD, physician-assistant). Relevant fields of specialization may include internal medicine, preventive medicine, family medicine, pediatrics, cardiology, clinical epidemiology, clinical informatics, health services research and health economics.
